NEW GENERATION PROJECTS

•  Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)

RYPEN is a 3-day seminar for participants aged between 14-16 years of age. It aims for average students who have shown some qualities of decency, courage, persistence, sincerity and application in everyday life and deserves further development.

•  Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)

MUNA simulates the working of the United Nations (UN) by having teams of two year 9, 10, 11 or 12 students who represent member UN countries, engage in debate on matters of world political and social concern and to develop awareness of the UN and its workings

•  Camp Awakenings

This is a 2 ½ day youth development program for Year 9 students. It focuses on building support networks for the participants through friendship and trust.

•  Lord and Lady Somers Camp

The camps focus on bringing together youths from various backgrounds and challenging them to overcome barriers generated by society and stereotypes. Each camp runs for one week catering for youths aged 16 – 18 years.

•  Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

This is a 6-day intensive training program for young people aged between 18– 26. The program covers fundamentals and ethics of positive leadership, communication skills, problem solving and conflict management.

•  Youth Science Experience

This is a national program that encourages students in Years 9 and 10 to consider science, engineering and technology as interesting and worthwhile subjects and career choices.

•  National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

The NYSF is a prestigious Australian program dedicated to exposing year 11 students who are thinking about a career in science, engineering and related disciplines to major scientific institutions and researchers so that they may make more informed choices for their future endeavours.

•  Car Torque

Located at the premises of the Healesville Living and Learning Centre, this program assists youths in the application to motor mechanical skills. Sessions are run every Monday evenings.

•  Primary Schools Speech Contest

This is an event where young students from local primary schools are encouraged to participate in a speech contest so as to cultivate their confidence.

•  Rotary Youth Exchange

This is a powerful program where we send deserving students overseas to experience different cultures.

In addition to the above Rotary sponsored projects, we hope to be more locally involved as well. An immediate and urgent first step is to establish the Interact Club at Healesville High School. This program is closely intertwined with the school students and teachers. We hope that by the end of the rotary year, this club will be chartered.

Another focus will be on younger children in years 5, 6, 7 and 8. We hope to develop programs that will develop their competence, skills and confidence in an interesting way.

This year we also hope to establish links with other local youth organizations so as to work together to a common goal utilizing our limited resources.
